Pearl Fryar’s Garden, Bishopsville South Carolina

I am so glad I had the chance to visit the topiary garden of Mr. Pearl Fryar. Pearl lives in Bishopville, South Carolina and is known for his topiary garden. He began work on his garden over 30 years ago. Many of the trees and plants in his yard were once nurseries trash but not to Pearl. Pearl rescued these plants and cared for them and over time he has built one of the most spectacular gardens. We were lucky enough to arrive to find Pearl mowing his yard. He greeted us with such warmth and invited us to tour his beautiful garden. What a treat that was. We wandered around the whimsical garden that left amazement in our minds. How could he manage this? The topiary sculptures towered above us as we meandered through with him sharing his story with us. Pearl is also a sculpture and shared with us his various sculptures found in the garden. He is an amazing man and is an inspiration to many. Three words he lives by; words that seemed to be the overall theme of the garden…three small words but yet so powerful. LOVE…PEACE…GOODWILL
